Acknowledgment
This project was conceived and created on stolen Lenape land and on a history of stolen lives. Waubgeshig Rice, author and journalist, taught us that land acknowledgments like this prove hollow unless those who make them actively work towards reparations and rematriationRematriation has many definitions, and can refer to a return to native lands, the return of stolen historical artifacts and remains, a return to a closer relationship with nature, and above all, a constructive replacement for the dual systems of patriarchy and colonization. As one small step, a community organizing practice to fight for rematriation and reparations explores self-reflection, allyship, research, goal-setting, different initiative concepts looking at wealth, health, social support, and prison abolition, and giving power back to the people.
